Two Detained Following Shooting, Pursuit in Williamsburg

WILLIAMSBURG — Two men were detained following a shooting and vehicle pursuit in the City of Williamsburg on Sat., Feb. 26.

At approximately 10:50 p.m., officers from the Williamsburg Police Department (WPD) observed people running near the 300 block of Scotland St. following the sound of a single gunshot. The officers then saw a vehicle pull away from the intersection of Richmond Rd. and Scotland St. and followed in pursuit of the vehicle.

The brief vehicle pursuit ended at the intersection of Richmond Rd. and Stadium Dr. Officers conducted a felony stop and two males were detained.

WPD officers located and secured two pistols from inside the vehicle. They were also able to recover one shell casing from the approximate area in which the shooting took place.

The two males have since been identified by Williamsburg P.D. as Kaison Dorrell Branch, 23, of Cumberland, VA, and Jymeke Maquan Carpenter, 23, of North Chesterfield, Va.

Both suspects have been transported to the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail (VPRJ).

Branch was charged with eluding the police (46.2-817).

Carpenter was charged with weapon possession by a felon (18.2-308.2), carrying a concealed weapon (18.2-308), discharging a firearm in a public space (18.2-280), and brandishing a firearm (18.2-282).

An uninvolved vehicle was reported to have approximately $600 in property damage. The tire and rim of the vehicle were impacted by the bullet.

No injuries were reported from the incident.
