YORK COUNTY — Deputies from the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office (YPSO) arrested a man wanted in Chesapeake for drug and weapons charges after a car chase on Sunday morning, Feb. 20.
According to a post on the YPSO Facebook page, deputies received a call around 8 a.m. regarding a suspicious vehicle parked in the 8000 block of George Washington Memorial Highway (U.S. Route 17).
Deputies made contact with the driver of the car, Daniel Thomas Rudy, 32, of Chesapeake. According to the post, the Rudy appeared to be under the influence of drugs and alcohol. When deputies asked him to step out of the vehicle he refused and proceeded to drive away.
YPSO began to follow him as he drove down Fort Eustis Boulevard and then on to Interstate 64 westbound.
While on the interstate, Virginia State Police (VSP) joined in the chase. At some point on the interstate, Rudy rammed a VSP vehicle.
The chase ended after Rudy exited the interstate and pulled into the commuter lot on Rochambeau Drive. He then ran from the vehicle. He was apprehended by YPSO deputies a short while later after a foot chase through the woods.
Rudy is currently being held in the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail. YPSO is charging him with the following: obstruction of justice, reckless driving, driving under revocation, felony evade & elude, felony hit and run, felony assault on law enforcement, felony destruction of property, driving under the influence of illegal drugs, possession of illegal drugs, and possession of ammunition by a convicted felon.
YPSO said that no other vehicles were struck or damaged and there were no injuries as a result of this incident.
