Is anyone else excited about cooler temperatures, changing leaves, pumpkins, and kettle corn? From history to hayrides and booze to boos— autumn in Yorktown is packed with free seasonal fun for the whole family.
Rhythms on the Riverwalk: September may begin in summer but it ends in fall and Yorktown plans to kick off the season early with live music returning to Thursday nights at the waterfront beginning Sept. 9. This year’s lineup highlights several genres of music including country, jazz, and even a lil’ bluegrass! Performances run from 6:30 to 8:30.

Yorktown Art Stroll: On Sunday, Sept. 26 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., the Freight Shed and Yorktown Waterfront will be filled with unique works of art. Stop by to get a jumpstart on holiday shopping. You’ll find unique gift ideas in everything from oil, acrylic, and watercolor paintings to glass, drawings, photography, jewelry, pottery, painted furniture, fiber art, handmade soap, wood work, and more.
Wine Festival: Whether you consider yourself a wine connoisseur or an aspiring novice—you don’t want to miss this grand tasting on Saturday, Oct. 2. Not only will you sample some of Virginia’s finest vino, but wines from Yorktown’s sister cities in Germany and France will take your palate on a trip around the world! Fall Market: During this special farmers market on Saturday, Oct. 9, shop more than 40 different vendors and artists selling seasonal favorites like pumpkins, wreaths, autumn-inspired art, kettle corn, homemade pies, and caramel apples. Enjoy free activities for kids including a hay maze, the return of hayrides, petting zoo, and a live demo from a professional pumpkin carver! The Fifes & Drums of York Town perform at 9 a.m.
Yorktown Day: On Tuesday, Oct. 19, join in townwide festivities to commemorate the Siege of Yorktown—a victory that paved the way for America and freedom. There will be a wreath-laying ceremony at the Victory Monument followed by a patriotic parade down Main Street. The Gallery at York Hall will have extended hours from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with book signings beginning at 12:30. The American Revolution Museum at Yorktown will celebrate the Saturday before Yorktown Day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. with special exhibits, interpretive programs, and artillery firings!
Paws at the River: This popular market was created to bring awareness to animal rescue organizations, and to help place adoptable pets in their “furever” homes. The fun on Saturday, Oct. 30, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., will extend down to the green in front of the Riverwalk Landing businesses where you’ll find informational booths and other educational opportunities! Don’t forget to pick up a special treat from the newly opened Gangsta Dog or from FiDough Homemade Dog Treats—a regular market vendor. Get a free picture with your canine companion (uploaded to Visit Yorktown’s Facebook page) from 9 to 12, and march in the annual Halloween Pet Costume Parade at 1 p.m. There’s lots of fun for the kids, too! The popular town-wide trick-or-treating event at participating businesses will be back.
