GRAFTON — On Tuesday, April 27 at approximately 6:30 a.m., fire alarms were triggered at the Grafton Complex, located at 403 Grafton Drive in Yorktown, which houses both Grafton Middle and Grafton High schools.
Out of an abundance of caution, Grafton High School student drivers and school buses were temporarily rerouted to York High School.
York County Fire and Life Safety were able to investigate the alarm and determined that it was caused by an overheated fan belt in an HVAC unit.

At approximately 7:43 a.m., an “all clear” was issued for students, faculty, and staff to return to the building. This allowed for Grafton Middle School students to begin their classes at normal time, but the high school students’ classes did not begin until 8:00 a.m.
As a result, York County School Division buses are delayed for students attending the area’s elementary schools.
This morning’s alarm comes just over a year after the Grafton Complex suffered an electrical fire, which caused the building to shut down for most of 2020.
