JAMES CITY COUNTY — Billsburg Brewery will re-release an IPA in honor of a Virginia State Police trooper.
This is Billsburg’s third annual release of the 756 IPA, which is named after the state trooper, Chad Phillip Dermyer’s, badge number.
This year’s 756 IPA cans will go on sale on Friday, March 26 and will be followed by the draft release on Saturday, March 27.
Dermyer was killed in the line of duty on March 31, 2016.
His wife, Michelle, has assisted Billsburg’s brewers in making the beer and planning the event each year.
Cory Moreno, the brewery’s manager and event organizer, said a portion of the proceeds always go to a charity of Michelle Dermyer’s choosing.
This year’s proceeds will go to Concerns of Police Survivors or C.O.P.S., a nonprofit organization that provides resources and support to the surviving families and affected co-workers of fallen officers.
“Michelle is an amazing woman. She comes in and brews the beer with us,” Moreno said. “We’re happy to keep his memory alive.”
Moreno noted that Michelle Dermyer will be at the brewery on Saturday for the draft release. Billsburg Brewery will also have a day of music and celebration to honor her late husband.
The IPA that is being released this weekend comes ahead of Dermyer’s five-year “End of Watch.”
“It’s reassuring to know that as we approach March 31, Chad is still being honored and remembered for his service and sacrifice,” the Virginia State Police said in a statement.
