The Board of Supervisors have appointed G. Stephen Roane Jr. to fill the District 4 seat left vacant by the resignation of the previous Board member Jeffrey D. Wassmer.
Roane and five other applicants made presentations to the Board of Supervisors during a meeting in York Hall Tuesday Dec. 8. Following the presentations, the Board deliberated before appointing Roane to the position.
“Fortunately I have been blessed with this opportunity to serve with other board members representing my neighbors here in District 4. I am really excited about the opportunity and I am looking forward to it,” Roane said.
Roane and his wife of 31 years have been in York County for 21 of those years, raising a son and daughter. Roane said he has had the opportunity to help out and be involved in the community he loves as best as he could.
He helped with son’s Cub Scout and Boy Scout group, coached youth athletics, is currently coaching the Grafton Tabby football league and is on the board of directors for that organization and he is currently on the recently created York-Poquoson Citizen Advisory Board.
“When this vacancy came to be, to me it was just another opportunity to do that same type of thing just in a different capacity,” Roane said.
Contact information for all five Board members including the new member Roane who tells Wydaily he wants to encourage the community to stay involved and communicate is available on the website.
