
Three employees have tested positive for the coronavirus (COVID 19) at Newport News Shipbuilding.
So far the company has 9 confirmed cases, the first was reported a little more than a week ago on March 23.
One of the individuals is a contractor who worked at Building 600-2, Off-Yard Office, 39th Street and Marshall Avenue and was last on company property on March 26, according to the shipyard’s website.
Another employee was working on the USS George Washington CVN 73, space number 7-84-0-M, North Yard and was last on company property on March 30.
The third person worked at Building 4931-1, Mid-Yard and was last on company property March 30.
It’s unclear if the three individuals self-reported and if they are currently quarantined.
There are now three cases in the Mid-Yard, five cases in the Off Yard Offices and one case on the USS George Washington CVN 72. There are no cases reported in the North Yard, South Yard or on the John F. Kennedy CVN 79 at this time.
Virginia has 1,706 positive cases and 41 deaths. At least eight people from the Peninsula Health District have died from the coronavirus.
