Ever heard of Pie Day?
No, not Pi Day which is observed on March 14, but Pie Day.
It may sound the same but the one with the “e” is far more tasty than the mathematical one — and James City County is making sure residents are prepared for National Pie Day on Jan. 23.
The official National Pie Day is sponsored by the American Pie Council, said Laura Messer, the county’s tourism and marketing coordinator. Messer said this is a good way to celebrate something simple after the rush of the holiday season.
To commemorate National Pie Day, the county compiled a list of locations that serve various sizes and types of pies in the area.
“We just wanted to highlight the different areas where people can get pie,” she said. “There are lots of days throughout the year that James City County chooses to highlight for our local visitors and residents just as a fun thing to do.”
Messer said the county also promotes days such as National Wine Day or National Pizza Day.
“I think people love a reason to celebrate regardless of what the event might be,” she said. “Providing this list just allows people to see where they can take part.”
James City County’s list is divided into four sections: places to get slices of pie, locations that serve dessert pie slices and whole pies, dessert whole pies and finally where locals can get a savory pie.
Here you go:
- Center Street Grill
- Colonial Heritage
- Corner Pocket
- Jimmy’s Oven and Grill
- Old Chickahominy House
- Opus 9 Steakhouse
- Two Drummers Smokehouse
- Charly’s Airport Restaurant
- Jamestown Pie Company
- Carrot Tree Kitchens
- Oceans and Ale
The list does not include locations that serve pizza pies because the county also celebrates National Pizza Day, according to a news release.
The locality also encourages locals to post about their pie on Facebook and message or tag the county.
