Seven men from Hampton and Newport News were convicted by a federal jury on charges ranging from racketeering conspiracy and drug trafficking to murder and attempted murder, authorities said.
“The 36th Street Bang Squad is a violent and vicious criminal enterprise,” said G. Zachary Terwilliger, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia. “The murders were no random acts of violence, rather they were the product of a deliberate effort of 36th Street Bang Squad to attack rivals and enhance the reputation of the gang.”
Evidence presented at trial showed the group’s “activities” occurred in multiple locations in downtown Newport News and Hampton.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, The men “committed multiple acts of violence,” including the double murder of Jada Richardson and Domingo Davis in April 2015, the murder of Dwayne Parker in March 2015 and shootings against other rival gang members, according to the Easter District of Virginia news release.
The court documents shown at the trial indicated the crimes happened in downtown Newport News and Hampton, authorities said.
The men are currently being held at Western Tidewater Regional Jail.
