James City County’s Veterans Park tennis courts are closed as construction on eight new pickleball courts begins.

The courts at Veterans Park, commonly known as Kidsburg, are being demolished because of poor condition and aging, according to a news release from the county. Work at the site is also expected to eliminate the existing slope problems.

The courts will remain closed for eight to 10 weeks. During that time tennis will not be available at the park, but the county recommends tennis players to use the seven lighted tennis courts at Kiwanis Park in Williamsburg.

There are also a combination of six other tennis courts available to players at Jamestown High School, Warhill High School and Lafayette High School.

During construction Kidsburg and other Veterans Park amenities will remain open. There will be instructions from work crews for guest safety and children are not allowed to play on or near the construction equipment.
