While waffle and pancake houses are a trademark part of Richmond Road in Williamsburg, residents and visitors can now look to Grafton for another breakfast option.

A developer has submitted plans for a Waffle House along George Washington Memorial Highway, York County Deputy Planning Director Tim Cross said.

Plans were submitted in mid-May, documents show.

The plan is for a .68-acre parcel at 5601 George Washington Memorial Highway, between Pelican’s Snoballs of Yorktown and the Chipper Restaurant.

The restaurant will be 1,733 square feet and one story tall. It will have 29 parking spaces, Cross said.

Site plans show two driveways, one off Grafton Drive and another off George Washington Memorial Highway.

Plans submitted for the outside of the building show a red brick exterior with a typical yellow sign reading “WAFFLE HOUSE.”

The building is a by-right development, Cross said, meaning it does not need to go through county commissions and boards or get a special use permit.
