
Drivers in Yorktown will need to take extra care and follow some detours this weekend during the annual Victory at Yorktown races.
The Victory YMCA is holding its fifth-annual 5k, 10k and 1-mile fun run April 6 in Yorktown, York County officials wrote in a news release.
The races will begin at the Yorktown Waterfront, then go past landmarks including Yorktown Victory Monument, Cornwallis’ Cave and Surrender Field.
The 10k is a USA Track and Field-certified course, a CRR Grand Prix event and a Hampton Roads Super Grand Prix event.
Along with the athletic events, Healthy Kids Day will also run from 8:30-11:30 a.m. April 6. The event is free and features active play and educational activities, some with a Revolutionary theme.
Activities after the race include music, a costume contest, craft beer, wine, soft drinks, food, an awards ceremony, and door prizes.
Here are the road closures and detours that will occur during the event:
Road closures:
- Water Street, between Buckner and Ballard Street, from 6 a.m. to noon.
- Read Street, from Water to Main Street, from 8:30 to 9:15 a.m.
- Main Street, from Comte De Grasse to Ballard Street, from 8:30 to 9:15 a.m.
- Church Street, from the Church and Read Street parking lot to Main Street, from 8:30 to 9:15 a.m.
- Water Street between Buckner Street and Comte De Grasse Street from 8 to 10:30 a.m.
- Comte De Grasse Street, from Main Street to Water Street, from 8 to 10:30 a.m.
- Zweybrucken Road, from Ballard to Comte De Grasse Street, from 8 to 10:30 a.m.
- NPS Tour Road, from Ballard Street to Surrender Road, from 8 to 10:30 a.m.
- Surrender Road to Cook Road from 8 to 10:30 a.m.
Traffic delays from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m.:
- Ballard Street from Cook Road
- Ballard Street to the NPS Tour Road
- Cook Road from Surrender Road to Ballard Street
All public parking in historic Yorktown will remain open to vehicles, except the beach picnic area.
