NORFOLK – Waterside Drive between Saint Paul’s Boulevard and Atlantic Street will be closed to all traffic and pedestrians for demolition and permanent removal of the elevated pedestrian bridge near Commercial Place.

The work was originally scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday, city officials said.

But the city on Thursday tweeted: “Waterside Drive will remain open this weekend. Pedestrian Bridge demolition and permanent removal has been postponed to a later date due to inclement weather.”

A new date has not been set as of Thursday afternoon.

During the project, motorists are encouraged to use Main Street, City Hall Avenue, and Brambleton Avenue via Saint Paul’s Boulevard and Boush Street as alternate routes. Norfolk Police will assist with traffic.

Contact the city’s 24-hour hotline at 757-664-7220 to address construction concerns.
