Across the United States, Americans are decking the halls, hanging Christmas lights and preparing to cook their Christmas dinners.
But the National Fire Protection Association has a different version of a classic Christmas song: “Deck the halls with fire safety.”
The NFPA has released a one-minute video with fire safety tips for the holiday season. The video was reposted on Facebook Monday by the York County Department of Fire and Life Safety.
Here’s a list of tips from the NFPA:
- Use flameless candles near flammable objects
- Keep anything that can burn at least 12 inches away from heat sources
- Avoid overloading outlets
- Replace broken or burned-out Christmas lights
- Add water daily to live Christmas trees
- Turn off all lights and blow out candles at night.
