Deck the halls with … fire safety?

Across the United States, Americans are decking the halls, hanging Christmas lights and preparing to cook their Christmas dinners.

But the National Fire Protection Association has a different version of a classic Christmas song: “Deck the halls with fire safety.”

The NFPA has released a one-minute video with fire safety tips for the holiday season. The video was reposted on Facebook Monday by the York County Department of Fire and Life Safety.

Here’s a list of tips from the NFPA:

  • Use flameless candles near flammable objects
  • Keep anything that can burn at least 12 inches away from heat sources
  • Avoid overloading outlets
  • Replace broken or burned-out Christmas lights
  • Add water daily to live Christmas trees
  • Turn off all lights and blow out candles at night.
