VIRGINIA BEACH — If you enjoy taking photos and you’re in the mood for a fun challenge, here’s something for you.
To celebrate National Arts and Humanities Month the city’s Office of Cultural Affairs is hosting the Virginia Beach Public Art Tour Challenge through Oct. 31.
Using an online Google map supplied by the city, participants are tasked with finding and photographing four selected public art works that range from the Rudee Loop to the ViBe Creative District.
“Each artwork on the map has a photo prompt, and participants are asked to post to our Facebook page (@VirginiaBeachArts) or if they have a public Facebook or Instagram account, tag the photos #VBPublicArtTour,” said Nina Goodale, cultural arts coordinator in the Office of Cultural Affairs.
Goodale said the best collection of tagged photos will receive a prize package compiled from various arts-related and other businesses around the area of Public Art Tour Challenge.
The prize package includes two tickets to see a play at the Little Theatre of Virginia Beach, two admission tickets to the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chesapeake Bay Distillery tasting tickets for four (must be 21 or older), a jar of coffee from Fathom Coffee, and more.
Those wanting to take part should use the map to find the four art works; take their best and most creative photo of each; and share the photos on Instagram (#VBPublicArtTour) or on the Virginia Beach Arts Facebook page – where more information can also be found.
To have a chance at winning, the photos must be posted by Oct. 31, according to the contest rules.

The #VBPublicArtTour hashtag must be used and the user’s Instagram account must be public. Participants must also follow the @VaBeacharts Instagram account and @VirginiaBeachArts Facebook page.
Goodale said Cultural Affairs office staff will serve as judges, and any photos that show someone climbing on the artwork will be automatically disqualified.
Submitted photos may also be shared on the department’s social media sites.
