Hundreds of Dominion Energy customers in the Historic Triangle were without power Friday after powerful thunderstorms swept through the area the night before.
The largest outage — 632 customers — is near Yorktown, according to Dominion’s website.
Power is expected to be restored by 3 p.m., according to Dominion.
“The damage was pretty severe,” Dominion spokesperson Janell Hancock said. “We’ve identified at least two broken poles, five spans of wire and multiple locations with downed trees.”
Hancock said Dominion crews have been working through the night and are currently assessing the damage, as of 9:45 a.m.
“We’re doing everything we can to get the lights back on,” she said.
Smaller outages were scattered throughout Williamsburg and James City County, according to the website.
Some York County government offices were without power Friday morning. Deputy County Administrator Mark Bellamy said power was restored to the finance building and county administration building around 9:45 a.m.
The York County Courthouse remains without power as of 12:10 p.m., according to Shawn Kekoa-Dearhart, deputy first class sheriff for the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office. The courthouse will remain closed for the remainder of the day Friday.
