The National Weather Service wants you to stay inside Wednesday.
The NWS Wakefield regional office has issued a heat advisory for Greater Williamsburg and surrounding areas Wednesday.
With a high temperature of 94 degrees Fahrenheit and high humidity, the heat index is expected to reach over 100 degrees Fahrenheit.
Prolonged exposure to such temperatures can cause heat-related illness, and the NWS recommends residents stay indoors, drink plenty of water and check on neighbors and relatives.
Those who work outside should take extra precautions to avoid heat-related illnesses. Frequent rest breaks in the shade and air conditioning can prevent heat stroke.
The advisory goes into effect at noon Wednesday and will last until 7 p.m.
