Third segment of the I-64 widening project starts Sunday — and more lane closures are on the way

Drivers on Interstate 64 should expect a series of nightly lane closures — and possibly some delays — next week.

Crews contracted by VDOT will be performing work related to the I-64 widening project between Route 199 (exit 242) to Yorktown Road (exit 247) from Aug. 12-18.

Detour signs will be in place to direct drivers around the construction.

Construction on the third segment of the widening project is also slated to start Sunday, weather permitting.

The third segment will add a lane and shoulder in each direction for 8.25 miles from 1.15 miles east of exit 234 to about 1.05 miles west of exit 242.
