York County firefighters responded to the Great Wolf Lodge Monday evening after lightning struck the outside of the water park building, fire officials said.

The York County Department of Fire & Life Safety was called to the lodge, located at 549 East Rochambeau Drive, around 6:30 p.m. for a reported structure fire, Chief Steve Kopczynski said.

Fire officials determined the cause was a lightning strike to the exterior of the enclosed water park building, Kopczynski said.

There was no evidence of fire spread from that area.

People inside the water park building were relocated to the main hotel area.

Firefighters monitored the building for any other issues, then returned later to follow up and check on the facility, Kopczynski said.

James City County firefighters also assisted at the scene.
