Love butterflies? You can get up close to the creatures at the Williamsburg Botanical Garden’s butterfly festival and plant sale at James City County’s Freedom Park.

The festival will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 4 and 5. It will be held rain or shine, the botanical garden said.

Festival-goers can hold butterflies and hear from butterfly experts, and there will even be butterfly-themed crafts for children.

The highlight, though, will be two tents filled with more than 300 live butterflies that festival-goers can walk through, the botanical garden said.

The festival will also include a plant sale featuring milkweed and other plants that attract butterflies.

Admission is free. The Williamsburg Botanical Garden is on the grounds of Freedom Park, 5537 Centerville Road.

The festival is sponsored by the Williamsburg Botanical Garden and the Green Springs Garden Club.

More information can be found on Williamsburg Botanical Gardens’ website.
