Love movies? Have a library card? Now you can stream films for free

Movie buffs can take advantage of a new service to get their film fix.

The Williamsburg Regional Library is now offering free access to Kanopy, an on-demand film streaming service that offers more than 30,000 films.

“Kanopy is a great addition to our digital collections” says adult services librarian Charlotte Burcher said in a news release. “Thanks to a generous grant from the Friends of Williamsburg Regional Library Foundation, we are able to offer our users a great collection of streaming documentary, classic, and foreign films that are a complement to the DVD collections at WRL.”

Cardholders will be able to stream up four movies per month and have three days to watch each film they check out.

WRL cardholders can stream the films from any mobile device, TV or tablet by downloading the Kanopy app. The app is available for iOS, Android, AppleTV, Chromecast and Roku.

The Kanopy service offers rare titles, foreign films, award-winning documentaries classic and indie films, and “film festival favorites,” according to the release.
