A woman was transported to the hospital after a fire in the Monticello at Powhatan townhomes Saturday afternoon.
James City County fire crews received a call around 3:45 p.m. Saturday about a home on fire in the 2200 block of Carriage House way, James City County said.
Firefighters arrived to find smoke coming from the front door of the townhouse.
A small fire was “quickly” extinguished, the county said.
Both the resident and her dog were able to escape the home, but the resident suffered minor burms and was transported to a hospital.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but fire officials believe it may have been caused by smoking materials.
Both Williamsburg and York County fire crews assisted at the scene.
