JAMES CITY — A patient attacked and seriously injured a nurse at Eastern State Hospital on Friday, James City County Police said Tuesday.
According to police, Eric Maurice Littles, 26, of Portsmouth, attacked the nurse as she was removing him from a restraint chair, hitting her in the head several times and slamming her head against a wall.
The 58-year-old victim was taken to a local hospital and then flown to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, where she underwent surgery, police said.
Littles was taken into custody and charged with felony malicious wounding, police said. He is scheduled to appear in Williamsburg-James City County General District Court on July 27.
A previous malicious wounding charge against Littles filed on Feb. 10, 2017, was dismissed last July in Williamburg-James City County General District Court, according to online court records.
