YORK — A man who police say shot and killed a security guard at a York County restaurant in November 2016 was convicted Friday on four charges including manslaughter.
A jury convicted Coleston Ryan Lewis, 28, of Newport News, on May 4 in York County/Poquoson Circuit Court, according to the court documents.
Lewis shot and killed security guard Richard Irvin on Nov. 24, 2016, outside the County Grill, 1215 George Washington Memorial Highway.
Witnesses testified that Irvin broke up an altercation involving Lewis at a pre-Thansksgiving tent party before being shot and killed.
Lewis was arrested Nov. 30, 2016, at a residence in Newport News.
He was convicted Friday with manslaughter, carrying a concealed weapon, brandishing a firearm, and shooting in a public place, the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office said on Facebook. He was found not guilty of using a firearm in commission of a felony, according to court documents.
A charge of second-degree murder was also dismissed.
Lewis remains in jail and his sentencing hearing begins in September. The jury recommended he receive 13 years in prison for the charges.
