Students at Jamestown High School now have bragging rights for their principal, Catherine Worley, Ph.D, who has been named 2018 Outstanding High School Principal of Virginia.
“I am truly humbled by this recognition,” Worley said. “The success of Jamestown High School is a collaborative effort between outstanding teachers, staff, students and our community.”
Each year, the Virginia Association of Secondary School Principals awards one middle and one high school principal with the honor, according to WJCC Public Schools’ website. The winner is chosen after being nominated by their peers or division superintendents, then a committee reviews the nominations and the principals are interviewed by a panel of fellow principals.
Worley found success as principal of Jamestown through community involvement and a focus on current and emerging issues, the website said.
“Effective schools are vital to the success of students,” said Randy Barrack, VASSP executive director. “And the high expectations demanded by principals and their belief in the capacity of all students to perform is critical in school leadership.”
Worley will have the opportunity to speak on behalf of her colleagues at the 91st annual Virginia Middle and High School Principals Conference & Exposition. This will give Worley a platform to advocate for the needs of schools across Virginia.
The award for 2018 Outstanding High School Principal of Virginia will be given to Worley at the conference, which will be from June 24-27 in Hot Springs, Virginia.
