A Williamsburg woman has been charged with felony child abuse and driving under the influence after authorities found her driving between five and 10 mph on Merrimac Trail Saturday night.
York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office deputies were on routine patrol at 7:24 p.m. near Route 199 on Merrimac Trail when they saw a red car driving “at a very low rate of speed,” sheriff’s office spokeswoman Shelley Ward said.
Deputies stopped the vehicle and found 45-year-old Katina Harrold driving with two passengers, a 19-year-old and a 12-year-old, in the vehicle, Ward said. The child was not wearing a seatbelt.
Deputies smelled a “strong odor of alcohol” coming from the car, Ward said.
Harrold was arrested and taken to the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail on Merrimac Trail.
Online York-Poquoson General District Court records show Harrold has been charged with alcohol-related offenses in the past in York County.
She was charged with DUI-first offense and refusing a blood or breath test in August 2017.
The charges date back to 2008, and include public swearing and intoxication, improper child restraint, restricted license violations, and other equipment violations.
Court records show she is still in custody.
