NORFOLK — With less than two days before the submission period for the Virginia Zoo’s lion cub naming contest ends, you can now get a live look at the baby and its mother Zola inside their den.
The cub cam went live Wednesday morning and will be open at all times except for during checkups or brief signal disturbances.
According to the zoo’s website, you’ll be able to watch the male cub playing, eating and learning from mom.
The period for name submissions ends at noon on Friday. In order to enter a name, you must donate at least $1. All of the proceeds will go to the Pride Lion Conservation Alliance.
As of Wednesday afternoon, the name Emery had the most submissions. The rest of the top 10 in order is: Talley, Thabo, Khufu, Shazier, Greg, Azaan, Amir, Hokie and Elvis.
“We are expecting to see a rush of submissions come in at the last minute, so the top names can change at any time,” spokesperson Taylor Martin said.
