The York County Public Library’s Live Well @ Your Library series continues in December with yoga, mindfulness workshops and more.

The program began last winter and features monthly sessions on bettering the body, mending the mind, and soothing the soul, according to the York County website.

On Monday, the Yorktown Library, located at 8500 George Washington Memorial Hwy, will offer a free chair yoga class from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., according to a York County news release. The class will be led by a Garden of Zen Studio instructor, the website said.

Chair yoga is a series of yoga positions that take place on a chair or in the chair position. For those who lack mobility, chair yoga is a helpful variation on typical yoga, according to the Garden of Zen website. This type of yoga is low-impact and helpful for seniors.

While the chair will replace the typical yoga mat, the library still recommends bringing a mat to the class, according to the library’s website. The library has mats available to borrow, but the supply is limited. Registration is available online through the library events calendar or by calling the Yorktown Library.

In addition to yoga, the Tabb Library will also offer a workshop on mindfulness from 3-4:30 p.m. Dec. 10. The event will be presented by the Art of Living Hampton Roads, a nonprofit educational and humanitarian organization.

The library recommends the class to those looking for an hour of relaxation. The class focuses on guided meditation, breathing techniques, and practical wisdom, according to the release. These techniques are designed to help relieve stress and find one’s true self.

Registration is available on the Art of Living’s Meetup page.

The Tabb Library, located at 100 Long Green Boulevard in Yorktown, will also feature an event for children to operate Lionel Trains on Dec. 16 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Lionel Trains is the world’s largest producer of toy trains, according to their website. The event will also take place the following day on Dec. 17 from 1-3 p.m.

York County Libraries will also offer a variety of other programs for children in December. The events include:

  • Science Sunday on Dec. 3 at 2 p.m. for ages 5-10 at the Tabb Library.
  • Kids Create Holiday Cards on Dec. 9 at 10:30 a.m. for ages 3 and up at the Tabb Library.
  • Holiday Storytime on Dec. 9 at 1 p.m. for ages 3 and up at the Yorktown Library.
  • Lego Lovers on Dec. 11 at 4:30 p.m. for ages 5-12 at the Tabb Library.

  • Lego Time on Dec.15 at 3:30 p.m. for ages 4 and up at the Yorktown Library.

Registration is required for various programs. Registration is available on the library’s website.
