James City County Police were called to the Pineapple Inn on Richmond Road after a hangout session turned violent when a man punched another man in the face, police said.

Officers responded to the motel Aug. 24 after Shawn Rose, 36, of James City County, allegedly punched a 20-year-old man in the face, breaking his jaw, according to James City County Police Department spokeswoman Stephanie Williams.

The men were acquaintances, Williams said. They had been listening to music with other people before the victim rejected a “request” made by Rose.

Following the exchange, Rose allegedly broke the man’s jaw, according to Williams.

The victim was taken to the Williamsburg Sentara Hospital, Williams said.

Rose was not arrested the day of the alleged incident, but was later arrested on Sept. 2, according to online court records.

Rose has been charged with felony assault, Williams said.

Rose is scheduled to appear Oct. 3 at 2 p.m. in the Williamsburg-James City County General District Court, according to online court records.
