
Update 12:47 p.m.: A diesel fuel spill that occurred Monday morning behind Swem Library has been contained, according to an alert from the College of William & Mary.
“There is no ongoing danger to the campus community,” the alert read. Crews will remain on scene for cleanup for the afternoon and Landrum Drive between Ukrop and Crim Dell will be closed the remainder of the day. The parking area adjacent to Swem will be closed indefinitely, the alert read.
A fuel spill shut down a section of campus at the College of William & Mary Monday.
The college described the spill as a “hazmat” situation in a community alert, which was issued at 11:24 a.m.
The spill occurred near the rear of Swem Library. The college advised the campus community to avoid the area.
