Hundreds of Historic Triangle residents were left without power Tuesday after a tropical cyclone hit the Hampton Roads region.
According to Dominion Energy’s online outage map, roughly 800 customers in Williamsburg, James City and York counties were without power Tuesday afternoon after a tropical cyclone making its way up the East Coast brought heavy rain and high winds to the Historic Triangle.
The hardest hit areas, according to Dominion’s outage map, were Toano and Skimino Road, just south of York River State Park in James City County.
“The crew is currently en route to assess the damage,” Kirby Collett, a spokesperson with Dominion Energy, said around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday. “We’ll know more after we assess the damage.”
She said the outages in Toano and on Skimino Road were part of an “ongoing situation” and more information would become available once crews were at the scene.
According to Dominion’s online outage map, the time of full power restoration ranged from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. throughout the area.
As a result of the storm, the National Weather Service issued a flash flood watch for James City County and Williamsburg Tuesday morning. The forecast predicted between an inch and two inches of rainfall in Greater Williamsburg by Tuesday evening.
In advance of the storm, Dominion advised local residents to prepare for power outages by keeping cell phones and other important electronic devices charged and maintaining an emergency kit of supplies.
A complete list of recommended items for an emergency kit can be found on the Federal Emergency Management Agency website.
