Williamsburg health authorities are warning residents of the Fenwick Hills subdivision in James City County to be on the lookout for two dogs who they believe bit a person Friday, according to a Peninsula Health District news release.
“The dogs were described as possible schnauzers,” the release said.
The victim may need to receive treatment to prevent rabies if the dogs are not found. When the dogs are found, they will not be taken from their owner, but will be held at their home for a 10-day confinement period, according to the release.
Virginia state law requires that dogs and cats be vaccinated between 3 and 4 months of age to maintain protection against rabies, the release said.
Those with information on the schnauzers’ whereabouts are asked to contact the Peninsula Health District office by telephone at 757-603-4277 or the James City County Animal Control office at 757-253-1800.
