Bush Brothers & Company, maker of BUSH’S Baked Beans, issued a voluntary recall of certain 28 oz. canned beans Saturday due to a potential defect in the structure of their cans.

According to a release from company, particular cans of BUSH’S Brown Sugar Hickory Baked Beans, Country Style Baked Beans, and Original Baked Beans were discovered to have “potentially defective side seams on cans.”

The problem was uncovered after the company’s internal quality assurance team identified the issue. The defect can affect the can’s integrity, causing them to leak or allow harmful bacteria to grow inside.

The company said to date no illness or adverse consequence has been reported in connection to the issue and the problem has been remedied. However, the company is  still advising customers to be proactive and dispose of products with affected lot numbers.

Lot numbers can be found on the bottom of the can, and tracked on at BushBeans.com/recall.

“We are taking this action proactively out of concern for our loyal consumers, and we urge you to dispose of these affected products immediately even if the beans do not look or smell spoiled,” the release stated.

For more information on replacement and disposal instructions, please reach out to Bush Brothers & Company Consumer Relations team at 1-800-590-3797 Monday through Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time.
