NORFOLK — A woman is dead and a man is seriously injured after a shooting involving a Norfolk police officer on Monday night.
The shooting happened when a Norfolk Police Department officer responded to the scene of an accident near Admiral Taussig Boulevard and Hammond Avenue around 7:00 p.m., according to a NPD news release.
At the scene, 25-year-old India Nelson shot her husband in front of police. The pair were fighting prior to the shooting, according to the Virginia State Police.
A NPD officer shot back at Nelson, killing her, the release states.
The officers involved in the shooting have been put on administrative duty until the end of a Virginia State Police investigation.
This is the second officer-involved shooting in Norfolk this month and this year.
