False alarm: Gunshots reported near William & Mary

UPDATE: 

An erroneous emergency alert reporting gunshots near the William & Mary campus was sent out Thursday around noon, according to a William & Mary tweet.

The William & Mary Police were conducting a training exercise at the time of the alert, William & Mary spokeswoman Suzanne Seurattan said.

Police are responding to a report of gunshots near the William & Mary campus in Williamsburg, according to a William & Mary emergency alert.

The alert advises people to stay indoors and call 911 for help.
