UPDATE: Driver charged with reckless driving after tractor-trailer overturns

UPDATE 1:30 p.m.: The driver of a tractor-trailer that overturned on Interstate 64 Thursday morning has been charged with reckless driving, according to Virginia State Police.

Cortney Lynn Slater, 29, of Reisterstown, Md., was driving a 2011 Volvo tractor-trailer when he ran off the side of the interstate, according to a state police news release.

Slater over-corrected, causing the trailer to jackknife and overturn, the release said.

Slater sustained minor injuries from the crash.

UPDATE 11:53 a.m.: All westbound lanes on Interstate 64 have reopened following an accident involving a tractor-trailer, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.

A 2.5-mile backup remains.

Original story 9:10 a.m.:

The Virginia Department of Transportation is warning motorists to expect major delays after a tractor-trailer overturned on Interstate 64 westbound in York County Thursday morning.

All westbound lanes near Humelsine Parkway (Rt. 199), just west of the Colonial Parkway overpass, are closed due to the accident, according to a VDOT news release.

Traffic is being diverted at Exit 242 onto Route 199.

There is a three-mile backup behind the accident, the release said.
