A Williamsburg hotel’s golf cart was damaged Sunday night after two teenagers took it on a short joy ride and crashed it into a tree, police said.

Police responded to the Westgate Historic Williamsburg, located at 1324 block of Richmond Road, around 9:20 p.m. Sunday night in reference to a damaged golf cart, Williamsburg Police spokesman Maj. Greg Riley said.

A hotel clerk told police two juveniles came to the hotel’s front desk and signed out two bicycles, Riley said.

Instead of taking the two bicycles, the teens took an unattended golf cart and drove it to the back of the hotel, crashing it into a tree, Riley said.

Police identified the juveniles, but the hotel does not want to pursue charges, Riley said. The hotel only wanted the incident documented with police.
