The human remains found Friday in the woods off of Goosley road in York County are not believed to be connected to any known missing persons case, police said.

Captain Troy Lyons, commander of the criminal investigations division of the York Poquoson Sheriff’s Office, said the remains are those of a white male approximately 18-25 years old. The remains may have been there for several years, he said.

An identification card was found but authorities are not releasing the name until a positive identification has been made by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner and next of kin has been notified, Lyons said.

Police are treating this case as a suspicious death.

The discovery was made around 6:30 p.m. Friday in the woods near Leigh and Goosley Roads.

Lyons said portions of the remains were visible while others were covered by debris. Clothes were found nearby, he said.

“Investigators do not believe that the remains are related to the Colonial Parkway missing persons,” a news release said, referring to a series of unsolved murders which were committed along the parkway more than 30 years ago.

The intersection where the remains were found was closed off but has since been reopened.
