Heads up, drivers: The first of Williamsburg’s milling, paving and sidewalk projects is scheduled to start Thursday.
Crews will start road construction season with milling Thursday on Bypass Road, according to a City of Williamsburg news release. The paving will run from the Williamsburg city line through the intersection of State Route 132, to the Capitol Landing Rd. intersection.
The release said motorists should be prepared for changing traffic patterns, reduced speeds in work zones, uneven and rough pavement and unmarked pavement.
All residences and businesses in the paving area will also be accessible except for brief moments when the asphalt is first placed and compacted, the release said.
”Work is being coordinated around special events and schedules such as W&M graduation,” the release said. “No parking” signs will also be posted in necessary areas one day before work begins.
The four primary roads set for repaving this year are Bypass Road, Page Street, Lafayette Street and Henry Street. Side streets in the Holly Hills and Yorkshire area and portions of Parkway Drive, Nassau Street, South Boundary Street, Ireland Street and the access drive to the Community Building will also be repaved.
The city received four bids for the project, and awarded the project to low-bidder Allan Myers Inc. for $715,777, according to meeting documents. The actual amount of the project could vary from the bid, however, as the bid is based on estimates.
The project will be paid for with a combination of state and city funds. Forty-three percent of the projects will be paid for with city funds, the release said.
The state-provided funding was approved by VDOT through the State of Good Repair Program, according to meeting documents.
