NORFOLK — The search continues for a 24-year-old father accused of abducting and threatening to kill his family in January after his girlfriend took out a protective order against him.
On Jan. 6, Khiree Akeem Smith assaulted his girlfriend of six years in her home, located in the 3500 block of Mangrove Avenue, according to documents filed in Norfolk Circuit Court.
After the alleged assault, Smith’s girlfriend took out a protective order against him. While she was getting the order, Smith came to her home and took their two children, court documents state.
When Smith’s girlfriend returned to her house, Smith forced her into the back of his 2011 Nissan Altima at gunpoint. He threatened to kill her and the children if she didn’t obey him.
He drove her to the magistrate and told her to rescind the protective order. She initially refused, but Smith told her to get out or he would “start shooting,” according to court documents.
Police say Smith forced his girlfriend out of the car and took the children. She called 911, and police found the children unharmed on Jan. 7.
Smith is charged with three counts of abduction, three counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and two counts of child endangerment.
Smith is described as 6 feet 3 inches tall and 165 pounds. He has black hair, worn in dreadlocks, brown eyes and a goatee.
