HENRICO — A Norfolk State University student is accused of selling large amounts of heroin in the greater Richmond area, according to court documents.
Quashawn Bethea, 25, was charged with selling heroin in Henrico County on Dec. 1 after police say they witnessed him deal drugs to a person in Richmond, according to a search warrant filed in Virginia Beach Circuit Court.
The arrest came about two months after police began investigating Bethea’s “heroin trafficking activities,” including surveillance of his Virginia Beach apartment, located in the 500 block of Davis Street, court documents state.
The investigation included three controlled heroin purchases by police in October and November. Each buy happened in Richmond and included the purchase of a large amount of heroin from Bethea, who was captured on video and audio recording during the process.
On Dec. 1, police arranged another controlled buy with Bethea in Richmond. An officer watched him leave his apartment and followed his car to the arranged meeting place, which was chosen by Bethea.
At the location, police watched Bethea sell drugs to a person who wasn’t involved in the investigation. Police arrested Bethea and found heroin inside his car, according to court documents.
During a December search of Bethea’s home, police found heroin, wax paper envelopes, a scale, packaging material, marijuana and marijuana candy.
School officials confirmed that Bethea is currently a student at NSU.
Bethea’s case is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on April 6 in Henrico County General District Court.
