Suspect arrested in York County road rage shooting

The York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office has identified and arrested a suspect accused of shooting at a vehicle in a fit of road rage on Saturday, according to the YPSO Facebook page.

Jonathan Ray McDonald, 28, was arrested Tuesday without incident at his home on the 1200 block of Scabbard Court in Spotsylvania, Va.

At about 8:50 p.m. Saturday, a sheriff’s deputy parked at York Fire Station 5 was approached by a vehicle and advised that two of its occupants had been shot on Route 199 at the Mooretown Road overpass.

A male victim sitting in the rear passenger seat of the vehicle suffered a non-critical gunshot wound to the left eyebrow area, while the female driver suffered a life-threatening gunshot to the head.

The female victim is still receiving treatment at the Medical College of Virginia hospital in Richmond, YPSO Lt. Dennis Ivey said.

McDonald is charged with two counts of malicious wounding, shooting from a vehicle, shooting at a vehicle, reckless handling of a firearm and two counts of using a firearm in the commission of a felony.

An investigation of the incident is still ongoing.
