Ten Historic Triangle athletes have been named to All-Star teams by the Virginia High School Coaches Association.
The athletes named to All-Star teams will travel to Lynchburg in July to compete in VHSCA All-Star games.
For a player to be selected to an All-Star game, a high school coach must submit a form that includes an evaluation of the player’s skills. Each coach is limited to submitting no more than two players for All Star consideration.
The evaluations then are evaluated by a committee consisting of state championship coaches, which selects the final rosters for the East and West teams in each All-Star game.
“I think it’s an honor for senior athletes to be put in that showcase,” said Lafayette Boys Soccer Coach Brian Sorrell, who had two players named to All-Star rosters. “They’ve earned the honor to play in a game where senior athletes across the state are playing. It’s great to see the best athletes in the state play on the same stage.”
Seven local boys’ soccer players were chosen to All-Star teams, including two each from Jamestown, Lafayette and York high schools.
Jamestown’s two selections were midfielder Ben Carper and fullback Kyle Wade.
For Lafayette, goalkeeper David Domalski and forward Reeves Trott earned All-Star honors.
York seniors Max Poelker, a midfielder, and Bailey McClure, a forward, will team up in the All-Star game.
Bruton’s lone selection was midfielder Michael Wilson.
In girls’ soccer, the only local player to be named to an All-Star team was Warhill midfielder Shaye Doherty.
Two Grafton teammates — shortstop Tara Deck and third baseman Jessica Sprouse — were named to the VHSCA All-Star roster for softball.
