Three new members of the Williamsburg-James City County School Board who were elected to their offices last month were sworn in to office Dec. 3.
Retired teacher Sandy Young beat William & Mary professor John “Rio” Riofrio by a little more than 200 votes Nov. 3 to secure the Berkeley seat. She will replace Ruth Larson, who defeated incumbent Mary Jones to win the Berkeley seat on the JCC Board of Supervisors.
William & Mary professor emeritus Jim Beers defeated Grove resident Petra Nadal by nearly 400 votes last month to win the Roberts seat. He replaces current School Board vice chairwoman Heather Cordasco, who unsuccessfully challenged long-time Roberts supervisor John McGlennon for his seat on the JCC Board of Supervisors.
Paraeducator Holly Taylor will replace incumbent Jim Nickols in the Stonehouse district after exceeding his vote total by almost 300 votes.
All three School Board members will begin their first four-year terms Jan. 1.
