The James City County Economic Development Authority is now accepting proposals from businesses interested in subleasing 10 acres of land adjacent to the county’s marina, property formerly affiliated with Eco Discovery Park.
At the end of September the Board of Supervisors voted 4-1 to allow the EDA to lease 10 of the site’s 38 acres. Rent paid by a business that subleases the land would go toward economic development projects.
The EDA is seeking proposals that consider the goals of the Shaping Our Shores master plan, which envisions the potential for the Jamestown Yacht Basin to be an “active waterfront destination” for residents and tourists alike.
Until May, the site was home to Eco Discovery Park, a nonprofit that offered kayak and bicycle rentals at the marina.
Steve Rose, founder and chairman of Eco Discovery Park, said he does not intend to submit a proposal for the 10 acres. He said he has told county officials Eco Discovery Park would like to return to the marina but only if it could utilize the entire 38-acre property.
“We’re interested in the property but we’re still just interested in the property as a whole,” Rose said.
Proposals will be accepted at the James City County Office of Economic Development, located at 101 D Mounts Bay Road, until 5 p.m. Jan. 8.
