After securing re-election in uncontested races, soundly defeating challengers or, for one board member, affirming his win after a recount, all five incumbents on the York County School Board were sworn in Monday night.

Barbara Haywood (Dist. 1), who represents Upper York County, and Cindy Kirschke (Dist. 2), who represents the Grafton area, were not challenged during the Nov. 3 general election.

Haywood has served on the board since she was first appointed in 1989 and Kirschke, who has already announced she will not seek re-election in 2019, was elected to her first term in 2011.

Mark Medford (Dist. 3), who represents the Seaford area, defeated challenger Julie Reichle by more than 200 votes. Page Minter (Dist. 4), who represents the Dare area, beat challenger Stephen Roane by more than 400 votes.

Reichle and Roane were each incumbents’ first challengers since they were elected to office. Medford has served since 2000; Minter was first elected in 1995.

Robert George (Dist. 5), who represents the Tabb area, returns to his seat thanks to one vote – George earned 1,018 votes while his challenger Sean Myatt earned 1,017 votes.

A recount Dec. 1 confirmed that George was the victor. He has served on the board since 2008.

All five board members will serve four-year terms beginning Jan. 1, 2016.
