Virginia Absentee Ballot Applications Due Tuesday

Residents who cannot vote in person on Election Day have until close of business Tuesday to apply for an absentee ballot.

There are several options for obtaining and submitting an absentee ballot application. Residents can pick up an application at their local election office or complete an application online via Virginia’s new online citizen portal.

The application must be mailed, faxed, emailed or submitted via the citizen portal by 5 p.m. Oct. 27. The latest an application can be hand-delivered is 5 p.m. Oct. 31, the last day to vote absentee in person.

In-person absentee voting will take place at the following offices during regular business hours or between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on two Saturdays, Oct. 24 and Oct. 31:

James City County: Registrar’s Office, 101-E Mounts Bay Road, 757- 253-6868

York County: Registrar’s Office, 224 Ballard St., 757- 890-3440

City of Williamsburg: Registrar’s Office, 401 Lafayette St., 757-220-6157

Voters must mail their completed absentee ballots to their local registrar’s office by 7 p.m. Nov. 3.

Residents can find out if they qualify for an absentee ballot by visiting the Virginia Department of Elections citizen portal.
