James City County Police arrested a woman who they say attacked a neighbor’s friend because they were listening to music too loudly, and two guns were stolen from a home on John Tyler Highway.

Scissor-Wielding Neighbor Attacks Woman Over Loud Music, Police Say
A woman trying to protect her friend from a scissor attack was slashed instead, police said.
Tanya Ann Gardner Brown, a 58-year-old woman from James City County, has been charged with felonious assault for attacking a 23-year-old woman with scissors on July 19, according to a police report.
The report states a group of friends were sitting outside and listening to music on the 8900 block of Pocahontas Trail when Brown approached them, yelling at them for their music being too loud.
When the homeowner insisted Brown leave, she complied but returned with a pair of scissors, the report states.
Brown charged at a man in the group when a woman stepped in to prevent the attack. She then raised the scissors at the woman, threatened “I’ll cut you,” then followed through with the threat, according to court documents that cite the victim’s account of the incident.
Investigators talked with Brown, who admitted to the confrontation but said she intended to attack one of the men when the woman “ran into her scissors.”
The woman suffered two minor lacerations on her arm.
Brown was taken to a hospital that day for a mental health evaluation. She was arrested Aug. 10.
Police: Man Tries to Cash Stolen Check from Honey Butter’s Kitchen
A 20-year-old James City County man has been arrested for attempting to cash a $10,000 check stolen from Honey Butter’s Kitchen.
Justin Duane Sturdivant has been charged with one count each of uttering and attempt to obtain funds by false pretense – both felonies.
A report filed with James City County Police accuses Sturdivant of attempting to cash a stolen check at Union Bank on Aug. 7.
Court documents indicate Sturdivant received the check from a friend who works for Honey Butter’s and made the check out to Sturdivant for $10,000. Sturdivant told investigators he knew the check was stolen and planned to split the money with his friend.
Sturdivant’s friend, who is 16 years old, is also accused of stealing another check and successfully cashing it for $1,500 on Aug. 4, according to the police report. Petitions for petit larceny and forgery have been sought for the juvenile, who will not be named because of his age.
The investigation is ongoing.
Two Firearms Stolen in Residential Burglary
James City County Police are asking the public’s help in gathering information about a residential break-in on the 4800 block of John Tyler Highway.
The resident of the home said the break-in – during which two firearms were stolen – occurred between 3:30 and 10 p.m. Aug. 4.
No other items are believed to have been stolen.

Police Asks for Public’s Help
The man in the photo to the right is suspected of being involved in several incidents of credit card fraud in James City County.
Investigators are asking for the public’s help to identify him. Those with information can contact Investigator Jason Soldysko at 757-253-1800 or the Crime Line at 888-LOCK-U-UP.

York County
Deputies Arrest Pizza Thief Suspect
York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office investigators have connected a 19-year-old York County man to two pizza robberies.
Joshua Russell Ring was arrested Aug. 10 when deputies tracked him down after a Domino’s Pizza delivery driver was robbed.
The suspect gave Domino’s the address of a vacant residence on the 100 block of Edwards Court when he ordered the pizza, according to the report posted on YPSO’s Facebook page. When the driver arrived around 1:23 p.m. Aug. 10, Ring appeared from the backyard and demanded the pizza.
The driver said Ring made it appear as if he was reaching for a gun, but never displayed the gun.
Deputies were able to find the suspect at a nearby residence on the 100 block of Little Bay Avenue, where Ring was arrested and charged with the robbery. Further investigation connected Ring to another pizza robbery – at the same vacant residence – that occurred around 10:50 p.m. July 30.
Only pizza was stolen in both incidents.
Help YPSO Identify Suspects
The man shown in the surveillance photos above is suspected of using stolen credit card information to buy gift cards.
The stolen information was used at the Food Lion located at 5210 George Washington Memorial Highway in Yorktown on July 19.
The man pictured to the right is accused of stealing a bottle of alcohol.
Deputies said the bottle was stolen from the ABC store in the 6600 block of Mooretown Road.
The incident occurred around 8:15 p.m. July 29.
The woman shown to the left is accused of stealing clothes from Walmart.
The incident occurred around 11:45 a.m. July 22 at the Walmart on the 2600 block of George Washington Memorial Highway.
