The Williamsburg City Council has the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation’s plan to build a musket range near the Historic Triangle in its sights.
Council members will consider a group of four ordinance changes that would allow for the implementation of the plan for final approval at their meeting Thursday afternoon.
Colonial Williamsburg’s proposal calls for the construction of a live-fire musket range featuring a variety of 18th-century weaponry at a 46-acre wooded area at 640 South England St.

Visitors to the living history museum would have the chance to fire authentic and replica firearms from the Revolutionary era, including the brown bess rifle and blunderbuss, under the guidance of licensed instructors.
Colonial Williamsburg Foundation has presented the musket range as a way to generate excitement for the living history museum, which has seen declining attendance figures for the better part of 20 years.
Foundation President Mitchell Reiss debuted the initial idea in a May breakfast with community leaders on the future of Colonial Williamsburg.
