In order to continue doing what he says has been the “most rewarding experience of my life,” Williamsburg-James City County Commonwealth’s Attorney Nate Green is seeking a third term in office.
The Republican and College of William & Mary law school graduate was first elected to the position in 2007 after serving as an assistant commonwealth’s attorney for six years.
“Being the elected commonwealth’s attorney is a responsibility I take on with the same passion, joy, and dedication today as I did the first day I started as a prosecutor,” Green said in a Friday news release announcing his candidacy.
Green and his staff of five Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorneys prosecute all criminal law violations in the city of Williamsburg and James City County.
Green said during his six years in the job, he has handled a variety of other public safety responsibilities ranging from offering training and advice to police officers to helping victims cope.
“Our goals have been and will continue to be: that those citizens who have been victimized by crime, or who have given of their time to help us fight crime, are treated with the respect, empathy, and consideration they deserve; that the law is applied with both consistency and compassion; that we fight hard but fair; and that we never let a win go to our head, nor let a loss get to our heart,” he said in the release.
Williamsburg and James City County citizens will cast their votes for Commonwealth’s Attorney on Nov. 3.
If another Republican challenges Green, a primary will be held June 9. Green is the lone person to have announced a candidacy for the job.
